The Medina Township Board of Trustees Monthly Meeting

Purpose:  Regularly Scheduled Board Meeting

Present:  Shawn Garner, Supervisor

Mike Molohon, Trustee

Other Officials and Township Staff Present:

Call To Order:  Supervisor Garner called the meeting to order at 6:00 pm

Approval of Minutes: Mary presented the minutes from December 11, 2024. Shawn made a motion to approve the minutes, Cindy seconded. The minutes were approved by a unanimous voice vote.

Community Policing Report:  Ben gave the report for December 2024. There were 40 reports made involving 20 reports of crimes (12 original crimes).  There were also 28 traffic stops made in the township. Ben is still getting complaints about speeding in Lake of the Woods subdivision. He has been there to monitor the situation and the cars are not going more than 5 miles over the limit. He has also stopped a few speeders going down Cedar Hills drive. 

For the year of 2024 there were 240 police reports made in the township. 136 were reports of crime. There were 219 traffic stops made.

Public Input:  None 

Old Business:  None

New Business:  The township has received 2 grant applications:  one from Community Needs Agency for $1000 and one from Scouting America – W. D. Boyce Council for $6000. Cam made a motion to approve the CNA grant. Cindy seconded. Mike made a motion to approve the Scouting America grant. Luke seconded. A roll call vote was taken for both motions:  Luke – Aye, Shawn – Aye, Cindy – Aye, Cam – Aye, Mike – Aye. Both motions passed.

The board discussed retaining Mohr and Kerr to perform engineering and design of utilities/services at Wheaton St. Cam made a motion to proceed with Mohr and Kerr. Cindy seconded. The motion was approved by a unanimous voice vote.

Department Correspondence:

Supervisor Shawn Garner:  

  1. Investment Report:  The report ending on January 8, 2025, was previously presented to the board.
  2. There are no General Assistance cases pending. The caseworker for these is resigning and we will need to find someone who can provide this service on a contract basis for Medina.
  3. There are no cases before the Plan Commission. 
  4. We have selected Dan Evans to provide land surveying services for the south right of way line of Fairview St. 

Road Commissioner:  Frank Sturm

  1. They received the first order of salt.
  2. They are replacing the light fixtures in the break room and office to a more efficient style.
  3. Frank is working on the 2025 maintenance plan.

Assessor:  No report

Plan Commission:   No report

Trustees:  Luke is still getting calls regarding windmills but that is in Peoria County, not Medina Township.

Cam wanted the TOIA scholarship applications taken to the high school; Shawn will do so.

Township/Road District Bills:  Mike made a motion to pay the bills of the township.  Cam seconded.  The motion passed by a unanimous voice vote.

Adjournment:  Mike made a motion to adjourn, and Luke seconded it. The motion passed unanimously. The meeting was adjourned at 6:18 pm.
