The Medina Township Board of Trustees Monthly Meeting

Purpose:  Regularly Scheduled Board Meeting

Present:  Shawn Garner, Supervisor

Luke Harvey, Trustee

Call To Order: Supervisor Garner called the meeting to order at 6:15 pm

Approval of Minutes: Mary presented the minutes from April 9, 2025. Shawn made a motion to approve the minutes, Luke seconded. The minutes were approved by a unanimous voice vote.

Community Policing Report: Deputy Ben Davison gave the report for April 2025. There were 48 reports made involving 25 reports of crimes (14 original crimes). There were also 100 traffic stops made in the township. Code Enforcement has gotten involved with noise problems and nuisance properties that were discussed last month. 

Public Input: Residents of Parkside Lane reported that they are dealing with nuisance properties on their street. Issues include trash in yards, lawns not mowed, junk cars on the properties and speeding cars and the general condition of the road itself. The residents want a speed study done and a speed limit sign put up. Deputy Davison will patrol in the area and check the speeds cars are traveling. County Code Enforcement will be contacted for junk cars and yards that are not being mowed. Residents can call the County Code Enforcement at 309-494-8654 to report neglected properties. They can call the Township Office at 309-579-2205 to report lawns that have not been mowed.

Old Business: None

New Business: Mary asked the newly elected Trustees, Supervisor and Road Commissioner to stand and take the oath of office for this 4-year term. The Clerk was also sworn in.

Shawn presented a township Resolution TWN-2025-01 to oppose township consolidation into County government. Shawn made a motion to approve TWN-2025-01. Cam seconded and the motion was approved by a unanimous voice vote.

Department Correspondence:

Supervisor Shawn Garner:  

  1. Investment Report: The report ending on May 14, 2025, was previously presented to the board.
  2. There are no General Assistance (GA) cases pending. 
  3. There are no cases before the Plan Commission. 

Road Commissioner Frank Sturm: 

  1. The patching of road potholes is about finished. They have received a few more calls regarding potholes recently.
  2. Frank has completed a budget for the Road District for 2026-2026 and it is on display at the Township office for review.
  3. The excavator is in the shop for repairs. It will be ready in about a week.
  4. Some tree trimming was completed
  5. The Highway Permit is 40 years old, so Frank has had our lawyer review it for updating. It was last updated 15 years ago. John Redlingshafer, lawyer has come up with a new ordinance 25-01 Access to Highways. This will be posted in the Peoria Journal Star for residents to review.

Assessor: No report

Plan Commission: No report

Trustees: We are saddened to report the passing of Trustee Mike Molohon this morning. Mike was truly dedicated to the Township and volunteered many hours to the park and this area. We recognize Mike for his many years of service to Medina Township and extend our deepest condolences to his family for their loss.

Township/Road District Bills: Shawn made a motion to pay the bills of the township. Luke seconded. The motion passed by a unanimous voice vote.

Adjournment: Cam made a motion to adjourn, and Luke seconded it. The motion passed unanimously. The meeting was adjourned at 7:06 pm.
